New Print Format + Price Change
Starting with October 2023 stories, our photo prints will be larger (4" x 6" rectangles and 4" x 4" squares), and our subscription price will increase to $9.95 per month for the 10 print tier and to $19.95 for the 30 print tier.
Why the Changes?
Print Format
Kodak recently discontinued the specific size photo paper we’ve used to make our prints, and this paper is no longer available. In addition, many of our customers have reached out, desiring larger prints that work more seamlessly with widely available photo frames and photo albums. So after careful consideration we have decided to move to a larger print format. 4x6 is the most popular consumer print format and fits widely available photo accessories. Also, the required paper for 4x6 is readily available.
Price Increase
We have always been committed to keeping timeshel as affordable as possible, and have not raised our prices since we launched in 2013. Unfortunately, the cost of printing (material and labor) and shipping have increased dramatically over the last few years, and we can no longer keep the prices we started with. We have worked hard to postpone this day as long as possible, knowing that a price increase is never ideal.
Benefits of the Changes
Please know that as a result of these changes we will be able to:
Continue to offer the same level of professional print quality. We consistently hear that our customers notice, appreciate, and value the level of print quality. We will continue to deliver with the highest quality paper and print processes.
Continue to offer a flat-rate subscription price inclusive of shipping, handling, and taxes. No surprise charges.
Provide larger prints that you can use across industry standard photo frames, albums, storage units, and scrapbooking tools - all delivered in the same custom packaging you are familiar with.
Timing of the Changes
The new print format and the price increase will go into effect for October 2023 stories (November 1st payments). Existing customers will not be charged extra for missed months (stories that were paid for at the former price but have yet to be submitted to print). All stories submitted on, or after November 1st, including missed months, will be in the new format.
Important Notes
The original timeshel print format was made specifically for mobile phone photos (4:3 aspect ratio) to prevent mandatory cropping of your photos when printing. 4x6 prints (2:3 aspect ratio) require a small amount of cropping to fit this format. You will soon see an updated 'story' screen that shows your images in this new aspect ratio instead of square thumbnails to give you a more accurate visual idea of how your photos will print. The 'print preview' screen and our crop tool has also been updated to reflect these changes.
We are excited to introduce this larger print format and believe, even with the increased price, that others will be as well. The new, larger prints look and feel amazing. With some time, we think this will be a refreshing and exciting change that allows our customers to use their prints across industry standard photo frames, albums, and scrapbooking tools that open up a world of options to do more meaningful things with their printed memories.
